15 months on city council is enough for Whetham to seek Port Commission posting.
"West side, East side, what difference does it make right Lee?"
Figured as much! It doesn't say much for someone who decides seek a higher office after just 15 months on the job! You probably all heard by now that our pal Lee Whetham decided after just serving 15 months on the city council, seeks a posting on the Port Commission, one vacated by his pal John Calhoun, who by the way sided with Whetham during the 2013 election. Why do I assume that you may ask? Back during that election yours truly spoke against cutting down the trees at Lincoln park, Whetham was in favor in cutting down the trees. Well no sooner than that debate when I spoke against cutting down the trees, the PDN ran a story quoting Port Commissioner as saying: " We might have a city council soon we can deal with." It was the Port who was pressuring the city in cutting down trees at Lincoln park. Well to me that was a Port Commissioner meddling in a local election he had no business meddling in, since he lives in Forks!
However, Whetham wasn't the only current city council member bucking for another posting, Sissi Bruch recently ran for a position on the County Commission, but lost her bid for that posting. However at least Bruch managed to serve on the city council longer than Whetham before deciding to
seek another posting. I guess the city council is just a spring board to greater things huh
folks? Whatever happened to commitment to a position you ran for in the first place, won the position
and then serve at least one full term before moving on?
Plus, didn't he say during the election he was committed in serving on the council full term? Guess that's out the window! Additionally, his supporters during the election always seem to brag about how committed he is on the job.
Secondly, I taught you had to actually live on the west side of the county to represent those who lives on the west side for Port Commission?
According to County records, Whetham lives on Golf Course Rd Port Angeles
That's on the east side of town! Unless he recently moved to the west side of town, how is it that someone who is listed living on the east side runs for a posting for west side? Like I said, if he recently
Moved to the west side of town it's sounds a little too convenient don't you think. One would think
he was planning for a Port run along, he was just buying time.
Who knows, maybe one day there will be council members who actually serve out an entire term in office before pursuing another venue in local politics, right now the city council positions are treated like stop over postings waiting for a better opportunity come along.
Yours truly was willing to serve at least a full term in office, but I guess we will never know now since the voters express their thoughts on me being in any elected positions, except for those who actually voted for me and wanted me to have a chance. And no, it's not because of some sick malcontent bullying me not to run again, it is because five tries at something and failing to achieve it is discouraging and depressing really. I am sure my detractors out there would be pleased to hear that.
I believe I can do just as good being a spokesman for causes, and advocate for changes through my news blog here. The electric billing cycle is a good example of that.

County Commission the only show in town on Tuesday.
March is one of those five week months that ends up with the County Commission being the only governmental meeting to meet at the last Tuesday of the month. Because the other governmental bodies only meet twice a month, while the county meets weekly. Well since this coming Tuesday is the last day of the month, the county is the only show in town since the other governmental bodies already met for the month.
