Press release issued: Jan 04 2017
(Washington, D.C.) — Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement after meeting with President-elect Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), Congressman Tom Price (R-GA).
“Today I met with Congressman Price to discuss his vision for the Department of Health and Human Services and the starkly different views we have about our health care system and health priorities crucial to women, families, and seniors nationwide. As I have made clear, Congressman Price’s record of spearheading policies that undermine the health and rights of women, the LGBT community, and other vulnerable populations makes him a deeply troubling choice to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.
“As a leading proponent of rushing to dismantle our health care system, Congressman Price continues to pursue a dangerous agenda that would take health care away from millions of people, raise families’ health care costs, make draconian cuts to Medicaid that will hurt children and people with disabilities, and would end the guarantee of coverage under Medicare.
“I also continue to be concerned by recent reports suggesting that Congressman Price may have fallen short of his basic duty to appropriately separate his position in public office and his financial investments.
“I expect a thorough, rigorous vetting and hearing process.”
