PORT ANGELES DIGEST

CATCH 22 SCENARIO ETHICS COMPLAINT FILED, OR POLITICAL TIT FOR TAT JOB?

Just when you thought the onslaught of ethic complaints were solely being filed against those who mostly voted for fluoridation, and the out of control Feb 2nd meeting couldn't get any worse. Now, except for the one of the new crop of City Council members facing an ethics complaint. Brad Collins who voted in favor of continuing fluoride, is now face with an ethics complaint of his own, he was also named with the three council members in the complaint filed by Marie Wiggins, the wife of former mayor Glenn Wiggins, also named in the complaint were: Council members: Whetham, Bruch, and Merideth, along with Collins. The reason for the complaint as Wiggins puts it is because these four council members stayed after the Feb 2 meeting was adjourned, and fielded comments by anti flouride citizens attending that fateful meeting. Up until now these four council members were spared the ethic compliant rod, that has changed apparently, its a catch 22 scenario readers, one group of council members are being charged for wrongly adjourning a meeting, and leaving, now you have this group being charged for staying around and hearing comments from majority of city residents took the time to voice their opinion on a "straw poll", only to have it ignored by the four council members who voted to continue putting fluoride in the water system. It's a darn if you do or don't scenario: Should they have stayed and fielded comments, or should they have left? My question why is this being done now? During the last city council meeting in April, Wiggins spoke on the merits of her friend the embattled Cherie Kidd who is still facing an public admonishment for her role on the meeting of Feb 2nd. See Clallam county public eye city council meeting April 19th: time sec 37: 08

Why didn't she file her compliant then? Why wait until this Tuesday's city council meeting?
On April 19th Wiggins stated that Kidd should not be publicly admonished.
To me this just seems all too convenient to be just coincidental if you ask me, no sooner than Kidd is facing a public admonishing, then this latest ethic complaint is field two weeks after!? So, yeah I do have to question the timing of all of this.
As I said this bog of ethics complaints has been a clever distraction from the root cause, that four council members decided to ignore the will of the people. Now it appears that side of the story is hitting the fan on two levels.

Ethics complaint names four Port Angeles City Council members---PDN

Quoting from the article posted:  "An ethical conduct complaint has been filed against Port Angeles City Council members Brad Collins, Lee Whetham, Sissi Bruch and Michael Merideth.
Wiggins said in her complaint that on Feb. 2, the four council members who stayed after adjournment “continued to conduct city business by listening to comments from the public at an unauthorized gathering” in violation of state law.
State law “clearly defines the process required when a council meeting has been shut down by disorderly conduct,” Wiggins said."

Port Angeles fluoridation foes file petition to change form of city government--PDN

quote from the article posted: "  The ad hoc fluoridation committee, headed by Councilman Brad Collins, who favors fluoridation, and Councilwoman Sissi Bruch, who is against it, reached a consensus “to support a school-related oral healthcare program that identifies students with severe tooth decay and makes referrals to an oral health care educator(s) supported by community resources,” according to the committee’s report. But Bruch and Collins said there was no consensus on continuing or stopping fluoridation, so the committee did not address the issue in its report."

1) Even if they manage to change the form of city government, who are they going to find, who will be willing to serve on a replacement city council? Knowing they too could be targeted for ethics complaints  in the future for any reason? Who would want to serve on any council or committee under those circumstances at this point? We made serving on these boards a joke!
2) As I said, this ad hoc committee was nothing more than a smoke screen and a complete waste of time as shown in the article posted by the PDN.

Video off an IPHONE shared by the PDN article, is dark and can't really see whats going on.

Editorial Comment: The video which Dale Wilson publisher of the Port O Call, is referring to was done on an IPHONE, I could not make out from the video what was really going on at the dias of the city council.  The quality of the video wasn't really clear in my opinion it was done at a distance, and lighting was dark. You couldn't really see what was going on in the clip. To get a good quality recording a IPHONE you need to be up front where the action is, not way back in the room.

Editorial Comment: I just knew with a passage of climate change policy, this would be coming next. Now the question is will the County Commission pass a carbon tax?
