PENINSULA HOUSING WILL GET $646,831.00 ON CAPITAL PROJECTS

Besides PHA getting these funds, Peninsula Housing Authority is switching to a section 8 program. The reason that housing announced this in December for those who live in these public housing including me, was so PHA could be put on a more stable funding stream, and would make it easier for them access funding for repairs and improve the properties either now or in the future.

No one, according to housing will have to move, and the rents will remain based on income of the renters.

This week Housing held virtual meetings for tenants who live in the Villa, Manor, and the Terrace (where I live). So, this is good news, I suppose.

As long, as they will continue to base rent on income I'm okay with it. At first when the tenants of these building were concerned, is my rent going sky high we cant live here? Will I have to move out? Fortunately, we don't have to move out, and our rents will still be based on income.

HUD AWARDS $2.7 BILLION TO IMPROVE, PRESERVE NATION'S PUBLIC HOUSING

Housing authorities will use funding to modernize housing for families, seniors.

HUD press release issued 2/23/21

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today awarded more than $2.7 billion in funding to nearly 2,900 public housing authorities (PHAs) in all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to make capital investments in their public housing units. View all local grants announced today.

The grants announced today are provided through HUD's Capital Fund Program, which offers annual funding to all public housing authorities to build, renovate, and/or modernize the public housing in their communities. Housing authorities can use the funding to complete large-scale improvements such as replacing roofs or making energy-efficient upgrades to heating systems and installing water conservation measures.

For more than 80 years, the federal government has been investing billions of dollars in developing and maintaining public housing, including providing critical support through the Capital Fund grants announced today.

Senator Murray Announces More Than $30 Million in Federal Awards to Improve Public Housing Infrastructure Across Washington State.

https://www.murray.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/newsreleases?ContentRecord_id=45655289-5F3F-49A7-9B9C-8A04C03A15E3

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) today announced Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awards totaling more than $30.7 million for communities across Washington state. The federal investments come from the Capital Fund Program, which provides annual funding to Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) for the development, financing, and modernization of public housing developments. As COVID-19 continues to pose an increased risk to people experiencing housing insecurity across Washington state, and climate change continues to challenge public housing infrastructure, this funding will enable PHAs to build new public housing and make critical repairs, which will improve living conditions for residents and help preserve essential parts of the state’s affordable housing infrastructure for the future.

“As so many in our state and across the country are struggling to keep a roof over their head, it’s critical that our Public Housing Authorities have the resources they need—not just to build and provide shelter, but to ensure that families already in public housing have the safety and the security they need to thrive,” Senator Murray said. “These federal awards move us closer to ensuring that no family is left out in the cold, or without a safe place to self-isolate during this pandemic.”

As a senior member of the Senate subcommittee responsible for housing appropriations, Senator Murray has consistently fought to strengthen funding for programs, such as the Capital Fund Program, to combat the housing crisis and improve public housing developments in Washington state and across the country. Last year, Senator Murray helped secure over $100 million in Emergency Solutions Grants for Washington state through the CARES Act, which provided a critical lifeline for people and families experiencing or facing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic, and last month Senator Murray announced more than $84 Million in federal awards to combat housing insecurity across Washington state.

Cantwell Pushes for Affordable Housing, Infrastructure Investment at Nomination Hearing for Deputy Treasury Secretary

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, questioned Wally Adeyemo, President Biden’s nominee for deputy secretary of the U.S. Treasury Department, about how he would deliver on Biden administration promises—and longtime Cantwell priorities—regarding affordable housing and transportation infrastructure.

President Biden has proposed expanding the Affordable Housing Tax Credit, also called the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, with a $10 billion investment to increase housing supply and make the credit more efficient. Senator Cantwell has led the fight to expand and strengthen the credit, including introducing legislation last Congress to help build nearly 10,000 new affordable housing units in Washington state. She secured a $5.8 billion housing provision in the omnibus bill passed by Congress in December that is estimated to increase affordable housing production by 130,000 units nationwide over the next decade. In 2018, she secured a nearly $3 billion down payment toward addressing the affordable housing crisis, helping to build over 28,000 units. Washington faces a severe affordable housing crisis, with only 31 available affordable rental homes for every 100 extremely low-income renter households.

Kilmer, Fitzpatrick Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Fix America’s Election Watchdog.

Press release issued 2/24/21

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Derek Kilmer (WA-06) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) introduced the bipartisan Restoring Integrity to America’s Elections Act to reform the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) and enable it to more effectively carry out its mission to oversee and enforce campaign finance laws.

The FEC has increasingly become deadlocked on critically important decisions because of the even partisan divide of its six commissioners. In 2016, nearly 40% of regular enforcement cases deadlocked, compared to 4.2% in 2006. Worse yet, those votes that did not deadlock were nearly all housekeeping matters or minor violations. The Restoring Integrity to America’s Elections Act will revitalize the FEC by breaking the deadlock of its leadership structure and strengthening its enforcement actions through faster and more efficient processes. U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) introduced companion legislation in the Senate.

“The Federal Elections Commission was set up to be the referee, tasked with blowing the whistle on politicians and groups that cheat and undermine the interests of ‘We the People’,” said Rep. Kilmer. “Unfortunately, in recent years, the ref often hasn’t even been on the field with the Commission often seeming more dysfunctional than even Congress. It’s time to get the referee back on the field. That’s what this bill is about. Meaningful, substantial reforms at the Commission need to happen so it can get back to weeding out campaign finance abuse and holding those who skirt the rules accountable.”

“The very foundation of our democracy is based upon the American people’s faith in our electoral system. Now, more than ever, it is vitally important we take steps to rebuild that faith,” said Rep. Fitzpatrick. “Ending the partisan gridlock at the Federal Election Commission will both increase transparency and re-instill confidence in the American people that all campaigns are held accountable and adhere to the same set of rules.”

“Free and fair elections are a central principle of our democracy. But the FEC has been mired in gridlock, leaving a campaign finance free-for-all that allows the voices of big corporations and special interests to drown out everyday Americans. It’s past time we put an end to it. Restoring power to the FEC is crucial to providing fair and transparent rulings on campaign finance violations and an important first step to overhauling our campaign finance system,” said Senator Van Hollen.

Under the Restoring Integrity to America’s Elections Act the number of appointed commissioners would be reduced from six to five, with two members from each major party and one independent. This change would bring the FEC more in line with how most other independent agencies are structured and end deadlock, while ensuring the president’s party would not hold the majority. Additionally, the legislation creates a Blue-Ribbon Advisory Panel, convened by the president to recommend individuals for appointment to the Commission. A fact sheet on the legislation can be found here. Bill text can be found here.

The legislation is endorsed by: Democracy21, End Citizens United, Common Cause, and Public Citizen. Yesterday, two former FEC Commissioners, Trevor Potter and Ann Ravel, endorsed provisions of the Restoring Integrity to America’s Elections Act in the For the People Act in a letter to Congressional leadership.

“Democracy 21 applauds Senators Van Hollen and Lujan and Representative Kilmer for introducing the Restoring Integrity to America’s Election Act which would repair the hopelessly ineffectual Federal Election Commission,” said Fred Wertheimer, President of Democracy21.

“Americans deserve to know who is trying to influence their voices and their votes. However, Mitch McConnell has ensured gridlock at the Federal Election Commission by promoting a bloc of FEC commissioners with records of working against the very laws they are charged with upholding,” said Beth Rotman, Director of Money in Politics & Ethics at Common Cause. “It’s long past due for the FEC to work for everyday Americans who can’t start a super PAC or make a big political contribution, and we applaud Senators Van Hollen and Lujan for introducing the Restoring Integrity to America’s Elections Act to help ensure the FEC works for all of us.”

“The FEC is broken, roiled in partisan gridlock. Under the current system, the party leaders of the senate select commissioners, which has carried over the same party polarization that has plagued Congress to the FEC. Deadlocked votes along party lines have gone from fewer than 2 percent through most of the agency’s history to a stifling 34 percent today, rendering the FEC toothless and dysfunctional. Restoring the Integrity of America’s Elections Act is critically-needed legislation that would end these partisan deadlocks and bring the campaign finance cop back on the beat,” said Craig Holman of Public Citizen.

“There has never been a more critical moment in our nation’s history to restore faith in our elections and bedrock institutions. Our country depends on a functioning Federal Election Commission that will actually enforce our nation’s campaign finance laws and meet the challenges of the 21st century. Passing the Restoring Integrity to America’s Elections Act is a necessary first step to address political dysfunction, and we commend Rep. Kilmer and Rep. Fitzpatrick for their bipartisan support on this important issue,” said Meredith McGehee, Executive Director of Issue One.

Cantwell on Historic Haaland Nomination: People in Indian Country “feel like they have been good stewards of public land for centuries”

In unexpected second day of Senate questioning, Cantwell secures Haaland’s pledge that funding for national parks backlog and LWCF will be spent as Great American Outdoors Act intended.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – At a Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources hearing this morning to consider the nomination of Representative Deb Haaland to be U.S. Secretary of the Interior, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) spoke about the importance of responsible stewardship of public lands. This was Haaland’s second appearance before the committee after yesterday’s hearing was cut short for votes before all of the committee members had a chance to ask their questions for the nominee.

Cantwell emphasized the historic nature of Haaland’s nomination—if confirmed she would be the first Indigenous Secretary of the Interior—and what it means for Tribal communities across the country: “There are people in Indian Country all over the United States that are so proud of her nomination. And they are—I don’t even know how we can explain adequately enough how much they are tuning in and looking at this moment. They feel like they have been good stewards of public land for centuries before us, and so, they are so excited about her nomination.”

6 Reasons to Oppose the Orwellian 'Equality Act'

"The bill would amend federal law to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, among other things. It would expand the arenas in which non-discrimination law applies and explicitly gut religious freedom protections.

In true Orwellian fashion, the Democrats have crafted an Equality Act that will promote inequality, enabling the government to privilege LGBT ideology over the Americans who disagree, for religious or other reasons. AMERICA LOST A TRUE FRIEND, AND LEDGEND THIS WEEK.

Commentary by Peter Ripley.

I listen to Rush Limbaugh off and on throughout the years since I left my parents, and struck out on my own. I would listen during the time, I worked running my newspaper stand in one of the local malls here in Port Angeles. Listen to his show while doing chores at home, and when I started publishing my news blog. Rush inspired me to think conservatively, and publish an alternative news source here in Port Angeles, than what residence of Port Angeles were getting, from the local mainstream media.

Back in high school I practiced being a radio DJ, with a good stereo, mick, and a good sound system made up by my brother Nathan, who set up speakers in his room so he could listen. This was long before I listen to Rush, but when Limbuagh's show started in the late 80's that even more sparked my interest about radio. But at last being a radio DJ wasn't going to be, because I just don't have "the voice" for radio. I turned to blogging.

Like Rush inspired so may other talented talk  show host on radio, and on print with a conservative mind set.

Limbaugh, passed away on Wednesday from stage 4 lung cancer, he announce that he had cancer last January, over the months fallowing that , he been taking treatments for it, until the treatments stopped working. When he was well enough to be on the air, he would often say he was thankful God for giving him another day to live. I believe, that we all should be thankful that, God gives us another day to live.

When I listened to the show I heard common sense talk, and some normality, from the chaos of the world, same can be said for going to church, that too brought some sense of normality for me.

Speaking of normal behavior, you don't go dancing on someone's grave celebrating his death. Any decent person wouldn't be doing that, and the lack of decency was astounding!

The liberal media, and haters were like vultures flying over head waiting to swoop down, and peck the bones of the dead! These liberals posted the most vile comments on social media, and the liberal press was at it too.

Consider this report over the hate filled reaction of Rush's death from various news sources from the Patriot Post:

Left media Smears Rush After His Passing

Those who never listened to Limbaugh falsely characterize him as divisive, racist, sexist, and bigoted.

A CASE OF SOUR GRAPES FROM OUR CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION,

OVER THE ACQUITTAL of TRUMP's UNCONSITUTIONAL IMPEACHMENT TRIAL?

Here's the reactions from our Congressional delegation to DC:

Cantwell Statement on Conclusion of Impeachment Trial of Donald J. Trump

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released the following statement after the conclusion of the second impeachment trial of former President Donald J. Trump:

“On January 6, President Trump put our democracy at real risk. For more than 200 years, Americans have fought for free and fair elections. They have sacrificed loved ones. President Trump put our democracy at risk when he promulgated lies about the election, used his office to try to interfere with election officials doing their job, and failed to protect our Capitol from a mob. President Trump’s “process” defense was not persuasive. A bipartisan majority of senators found him guilty, but unfortunately not a supermajority. President Trump should still be held accountable for his actions.”

Senator Murray Statement on Vote to Convict Former President Trump.

(Washington, D.C.) — U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) issued the following statement today following her vote to convict former President Trump and bar him from future office.

“I saw and heard firsthand the insurrectionists, at the behest of the former president, try to use fear and violence to overturn our democratic election. I voted today to convict former President Trump and prevent him from ever holding office again because we have to be a country run by strength and courage, not by fear; that uses votes and voices, not brute force. And I voted to convict today because I believe we must speak up for our democracy now, or we may lose it forever.

“I’m grateful to my Democratic and Republican colleagues who joined me in standing up for our democracy and making this the most bipartisan presidential impeachment in history. While too many of my Republican colleagues chose fear instead of justice today, I want to assure everyone in Washington state and across the country that I will never let fear or intimidation stop me from doing my duty to you and to our nation. I will continue working every day in the Senate, using my words and my vote, to stand up for our democracy and secure a fairer and brighter future for our state and our country.”

Kilmer, Strickland Introduce Legislation to Bolster Puget Sound Restoration & Recovery Efforts

PUGET SOS Act Enhances Federal Government’s Support for Puget Sound.

Press release issued 2/18/21

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representatives Derek Kilmer (WA-06) and Marilyn Strickland (WA-10), the Co-Chairs of the Puget Sound Recovery Caucus, introduced the Promoting United Government Efforts to Save Our Sound (PUGET SOS) Act of 2021. The PUGET SOS Act would enhance the federal government’s role and investment in the Puget Sound, the nation’s largest estuary by volume and the heart of Washington state’s identity and economic engine.

The PUGET SOS Act helps build a stronger partner in the federal government for critical Puget Sound recovery and restoration efforts in three main ways:

First, the bill establishes a Puget Sound Recovery National Program Office in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to coordinate protection and restoration efforts related to Puget Sound.

Second, it codifies the Puget Sound Federal Leadership Task Force, which was first created through a 2016 Memorandum of Understanding by executive action. The Task Force consists of representatives from various agencies that have a role in Puget Sound recovery.

Third, the bill authorizes $50 million annually for five years to carry out the provisions above.

“Puget Sound is our region’s most iconic body of water, a place on which generations of friends and neighbors have built their lives and made their livelihoods. But if future generations are going to have those opportunities, we've got to take action now to protect and restore the Sound – and we need a strong federal partner in those efforts,” said Rep. Kilmer. “That’s why I am proud to introduce the PUGET SOS Act with Representative Strickland to ensure the federal government steps-up to be the partner that state, tribal, and local entities need to save our Sound – and to assist regional efforts to restore salmon and orca populations, ensure future generations can dig for clams, and uphold tribal treaty rights.”

“We can’t wait any longer. We must seize this moment to heal and protect the Sound for future generations, and we know our partners at the state, local, and tribal level need immediate federal support to do so. Puget Sound is a treasure to our region and our nation, not only because of its breathtaking beauty, but also because of how critical it is to our economy, jobs, and environment – including our fish and wildlife habitat, biodiversity, and water supply. I’m thrilled to join Congressman Kilmer in introducing PUGET SOS Act to elevate the importance of Puget Sound at the national level - the same way people think of Chesapeake Bay and the Great Lakes - and to ensure that the federal government steps up to give the Sound the recognition, support, and environmental stewardship it deserves,” said Rep. Strickland.

“The Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission applauds Congressman Kilmer and Congresswoman Strickland for their leadership in introducing the PUGET SOS Act,” said Lorraine Loomis, Chair of the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission. “The PUGET SOS Act provides an important opportunity to address continued habitat concerns and accelerate efforts in restoring the health of the Puget Sound.  The Act encourages better coordination of state and federal agency work and increases accountability for getting the job done right.  I especially want to acknowledge Congressman Kilmer’s continued engagement with the tribes over the years and his on-going efforts to pass this legislation.  These are the kinds of changes that can truly improve Puget Sound recovery efforts, while also protecting tribal treaty-reserved rights and resources.”

“The PUGET SOS Act will authorize crucial funding for Puget Sound recovery efforts and coordinate federal resources and expertise,” said Laura Blackmore, executive director of the Puget Sound Partnership. “Passage of the PUGET SOS Act would signal Puget Sound’s importance to the economic, environmental, and cultural wellbeing of the nation. With Puget Sound recovery, we don’t have time to wait; this bill helps accelerate and amplify our efforts. I am grateful to Rep. Kilmer and Rep. Strickland for their commitment and leadership to ensure a healthy and resilient Puget Sound.”

“The PUGET SOS Act is an important step forward for the restoration of Puget Sound and the well-being of millions of people that depend on it,” said Mike Stevens, Washington state Director for The Nature Conservancy. “This legislation would bring much-needed resources to address pollution, flooding, inequitable access to clean water and other challenges facing our region. We are grateful to Reps. Kilmer and Strickland for championing Puget Sound recovery and for introducing this proposal to both coordinate federal and state recovery efforts and protect tribal treaty rights. These are all crucial components for creating a more resilient and sustainable future for the region.”

“Now more than ever we need the federal government to resume its vital role in the protection and recovery of Puget Sound and the Salish Sea. Coordination among our federal leaders and agencies means our region has a chance for the clean water and healthy habitats that are vital to our people, tribal nations, nature, and communities--this bill is an investment in our environment and a livable planet for future generations,” said Alyssa Macy, CEO of Washington Environmental Council/Washington Conservation Voters.

The Puget Sound Recovery Caucus, founded in 2013 and currently co-chaired by Reps. Derek Kilmer and Marilyn Strickland, focuses on recovering Puget Sound through steps like preventing pollution from urban storm water runoff, protecting and restoring habitat, and restoring and re-opening shellfish beds.

BIDEN RETURNS TO GLOBALISM, NO LONGER AMERICA FIRST.

Remarks by President Biden at the 2021 Virtual Munich Security Conference.

WH press release dated 2/19/21

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/speeches-remarks/2021/02/19/remarks-by-president-biden-at-the-2021-virtual-munich-security-conference/

Excerpts from speech:

" I speak today as President of the United States at the very start of my administration, and I’m sending a clear message to the world: America is back.  The transatlantic alliance is back.  And we are not looking backward; we are looking forward, together.

It comes down to this: The transatlantic alliance is a strong foundation — the strong foundation — on which our collective security and our shared prosperity are built.  The partnership between Europe and the United States, in my view, is and must remain the cornerstone of all that we hope to accomplish in the 21st century, just as we did in the 20th century."

" The challenges we face today are different.  We’re at an inflection point.  When I spoke to you as a senator and as even as Vice President, the global dynamics have shifted.  New crises demand our attention.  And we cannot focus only on the competition among countries that threaten to divide the world, or only on global challenges that threaten to sink us all together if we fail to cooperate.  We must do both, working in lockstep with our allies and partners.

So let me erase any lingering doubt: The United States will work closely with our European Union partners and the capitals across the continent — from Rome to Riga — to meet the range of shared challenges we face. "

" Our European partners have also stood with us to counter ISIS.  Just this week, NATO Defense Ministers endorsed a significantly expanded training and advisory mission in Iraq, which will be vital to the ongoing fight against ISIS.  We cannot allow ISIS to reopen and regroup and threaten people in the Middle East, in Europe, in the United States, and elsewhere.

And while the United States is undergoing a thorough review of our own force posture around the world, I’ve ordered the halting of withdrawal of American troops from Germany.  I’m also lifting the cap imposed by the previous administration on the number of U.S. forces able to be based in Germany. " ( read more of the speech on the WH webpage)

THIS WEEK'S HEADLINE NEWS

Senator Murray, Colleagues Will Reintroduce COVID-19 in Corrections Data Transparency Act.

Press release issued 2/11/21

https://www.murray.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/newsreleases?ContentRecord_id=35980877-1E43-4EBD-8339-BB182AFF4FBC

(Washington, D.C.) — U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), along with Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (D-MA, 7th), and other Senate and House Democrats, announced they will reintroduce the COVID-19 in Corrections Data Transparency Act, bicameral legislation that would require the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), the United States Marshals Service (USMS), and state governments to collect and publicly report detailed data about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in federal, state, and local correctional facilities. The bill was originally introduced in August 2020.

“We need to be taking the necessary precautions to beat COVID-19 everywhere, including in correctional facilities, where incarcerated people have too often been exposed to this deadly disease because of lax health and safety measures,” Senator Murray said. “This legislation is an important step we should take towards better understanding and addressing the impact of COVID-19 in correctional facilities.”

Although prisons and jails have become hotspots for the rapid spread of COVID-19, there is a troubling lack of comprehensive and publicly-available data from the BOP, the USMS, and state and local governments about the spread and management of COVID-19 in correctional facilities.

At the federal level, the BOP posts daily COVID-19 updates on its website but excludes important information, such as hospitalization numbers, and does not disaggregate data based on demographic categories. The USMS provides no data on its website on COVID-19 cases for individuals in its custody. At the state and local level, many state-run jails are not publicly reporting any information about COVID-19 cases, aside from a small number of large facilities. Even amongst the facilities that are reporting some information, however, the data are not standardized, and no central authority is ensuring that the data are easily accessible to and digestible by policymakers, public health experts, criminal justice professionals, and the public. This lack of detailed and public data is making it harder to manage the pandemic and contributing to the rampant spread of the virus both inside correctional facilities across the country and in the communities in which they are situated. This places incarcerated individuals, correctional staff, and the public at risk.

The COVID-19 in Corrections Data Transparency Act would provide public health experts, policymakers, and the public with critical information about COVID-19 in correctional facilities. The bill does this by:

Requiring BOP, USMS, and state and local correctional facilities to submit the following data to the CDC on a weekly basis, and regularly publish on their websites:

the numbers of incarcerated individuals and correctional staff who have been tested for COVID-19, and the type of tests performed,

the results of COVID-19 tests, including the numbers of confirmed negative tests, confirmed positive tests, pending tests, and the average time to obtain test results,

the outcomes of COVID-19 cases, including the numbers of people who were hospitalized, recovered, placed in or released from quarantine or medical isolation, or died with COVID-19,

the term of imprisonment and time served for incarcerated individuals who have been infected with COVID-19;

the numbers of incarcerated individuals and correctional staff who have been given a first does of a vaccine, have declined a vaccination, and are fully vaccinated;

Mandating that the data collected and reported be disaggregated by sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, race, ethnicity, disability, and geography; and

Subjecting states that fail to submit the required data to the CDC to a penalty in the form of a 10% reduction in future Byrne JAG grant funding.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Senator Murray has called for action and legislation to mitigate the rampant spread of COVID-19 throughout correctional facilities. Last year, Senators Murray, Warren, and Booker wrote to former Attorney General William Barr and the BOP urging the BOP to take necessary precautions in light of the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the safety and health of medically vulnerable inmates, including medically vulnerable pregnant individuals.

The COVID-19 in Corrections Data Transparency Act has been endorsed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU); American Public Health Association; AMEND at UCSF; Community Oriented Correctional Health Services; CURE (Citizens United for the Rehabilitation of Errants); Dream Corps JUSTICE; Drug Policy Alliance; Families Against Mandatory Minimums (FAMM); Federal Public and Community Defenders; First Focus Campaign for Children; Government Information Watch; Jewish Council for Public Affairs; Lambda Legal; Law Enforcement Action Partnership; Legal Action Center; National Association of Counsel for Children; National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; National Association of Social Workers; National Center for Youth Law; National HIRE Network; National Juvenile Justice Network; Pennsylvania Prison Society; R Street Institute; REFORM Alliance; StoptheDrugWar.org; The Justice Collaborative; The Sentencing Project; Union for Reform Judaism; Vera Institute of Justice; and Dr. Brie Williams, Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco.

Inslee statement on U.S. Rep. Simpson's proposed Columbia Basin legislation.

Press release issued 2/ 9/ 21

https://www.governor.wa.gov/news-media/inslee-statement-us-rep-simpsons-proposed-columbia-basin-legislation

Gov. Jay Inslee released a statement today regarding a proposal to recover salmon in the Pacific Northwest from U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson, an Idaho Republican.

“Washington welcomes Rep. Simpson’s willingness to think boldly about how to recover Columbia and Snake River salmon in a way that works for the entire region and invests – at a potentially transformative level – in clean energy, transportation and agriculture.

“I believe that the Columbia Basin Collaborative, a regional process the governors of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana are in the process of convening, must play a prominent role in the formation and implementation of a comprehensive plan for the future of the Columbia and Snake rivers. The Collaborative can complement and inform Congressional efforts, and help our states achieve salmon recovery goals in a manner that is consistent with protecting and enhancing clean, reliable and affordable energy, transportation systems and agriculture.

“Conversations among different interests and across party lines are essential to identifying creative solutions that work for salmon, energy and the economy. This is important – to Washington’s tribes, people, economy and culture. I look forward to engaging with our state’s congressional delegation to find solutions that fully meet the needs of our state.”

COMMENTARY BY PETER RIPLEY

DOES ANYONE REALLY BELIVES THAT GOV. INSLEE WILL EVER REOPEN THE STATE, WITHOUT COVID RESTRICTIONS?

Let me venture a guess...NO! Inslee has no intension of ever reopening this state. He still using the phase reopening method, ( which I call the slug maneuver), imposing restrictions  on Washingtonians! He will keep his Covid-19 rule as long as possible!

The following is a press release from Inslee on having five regions of our state too go to phase 2!

Just in time for Valentines Day!

Inslee announces five regions to progress to Phase 2

Press release from Gov. Inslee

https://www.governor.wa.gov/news-media/inslee-announces-five-regions-progress-phase-2

Gov. Jay Inslee announced today five new regions have met the metric requirements to progress to Phase 2 of the Healthy Washington reopening plan, starting this weekend. The West and Puget Sound regions have maintained their metric requirements to stay in Phase 2.

The new regions progressing to Phase 2 are:

North (Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, Island)

North Central (Okanogan, Chelan, Douglas, Grant)

Northwest (Clallam, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason)

East (Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Lincoln, Spokane, Adams, Whitman, Garfield)

Southwest (Wahkiakum, Cowlitz, Skamania, Clark, Klickitat)

The only region not moving to Phase 2 is the South Central region – which includes Ellensburg, Yakima, the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla.

Additionally, the governor announced Thursday evening that the five regions progressing will be able to do so starting Sunday, Feb. 14. The holiday weekend provides a large portion of a restaurant's yearly revenue, and by moving up the region's reopening date will allow dining establishments to benefit.

"I know this creates more options for restaurants to make Valentine's Day special for couples who hoped they could have a night out," Inslee said. "I am confident people, young and old, will celebrate safely. And if it's a first date that doesn't go well, remind them to stay six feet away from you."

Note: This is the actual  press release issued. What is this? Inslee giving dating tips!?

Editorial Note: According to the Governor it's okay to celebrate Valentine, and express confidence that those who celebrate the holiday safely, while he cancels Christmas, and Thanksgiving! Wonder if he'll cancel Easter?
