28 CENTS MORE TO SUPPORT MEDIC ONE....

IS CHUMP CHANGE COMPARED TO THE QUALITY OF SERVICES IT PROVIDES.

Second Medic 1 fee hike mulled in Port Angeles---PDN
Quote from the article Posted: " Fire Chief Ken Dubuc said Wednesday that without a second Medic 1 increase, fire insurance rates for homeowners and business owners will go up or the department budget — and staff — will continue to be burdened by overtime costs."
" Monthly Medic 1 utility fees that are now $6.90 per residential ratepayer will increase 4 percent, or 28 cents — $3.36 a year — in January 2017. Businesses pay about $7.20 per ratepayer and will increase by about 29 cents per month."

Editorial Note: The local news establishments didn't have much in the offering this week, and believe me readers I keep a close watch on what the local media publishes. This story from the Peninsula Daily News however, brought this question to mind. With all the drama being played out in the media spotlight of the ethical fire storm will this 28 cent increase on your utility bill go unnoticed? I don't think many would complain to much over a 28 cent increase to the Medic One program, after all the life saving services it covers. On this occasion the increase is warranted. The fire department has to be rebuilt, with more firemen retiring, the department is struggling to hire more firefighters to replace them. I note so far no one on the current City Council as addressed this issue.

Other note worthy items....

Next week the city will be holding an enterence conference with the assistant state auditor May 31st, according to the following memo: SPECIAL MEETING NOTICE PORT ANGELES CITY COUNCIL
Notice is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Port Angeles will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at 2 p.m., in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 321 East Fifth Street. The purpose of the meeting is an entrance conference with the Assistant State Auditor.
* no further details of this meeting was offered.

But speaking of Audits, this article was posted on the Port Angeles Unearth news blog: Gee, Losing Money is a SKILL???

(It was reprinted in the Port O Call newspaper)
Editorial note: Now, with all the controversy surrounding the State Auditor's office, are they creditable? They are also in an ethical fire storm, so two peas in a pod.
