THE PORT ANGELES DIGEST: THEY'll BE THE FIRST TO WHINE WHEN MILITARY IS NEEDED.

Every thing from the navy doing emergency drills, to trying to establish a port of call here in Port Angeles has been challenged by the loony left locally. Funny thing is they will be the first to cry foul if we are attacked by terrorist bent on our destruction, or face a natural disaster such as an earth quake which could cause such damage which would throw us back in the stone age. They would be the first to belly ache and whine when the military is not there to offer assistance, because they were driven out by the very ones who has a bur up their sattle regarding any military presence in Port Angeles.
I am referring to four examples of military opposition locally, under the guise of “protecting the environment”  1) The electronic war fare games by the navy, 2) the pier one project by the navy, 3) comprehensive plan by the city regarding military presence nobility the navy, 4) Snide comments about the military involvement in the disaster drill by some on the social media this week (liken the military involvement to an invasion! ….PLEASE!)
The interesting fact only one person spoke against the city's comprehensive plan to maintain good relations with the navy. That's according to a telephone chat with Nathan West, acting city manager, on Friday. The first three objections was having to do with environmental concerns: 1) The electronic war fare games, which the navy is wanting to do in the Olympic national park. We have a county commission candidate, Ron Richards speaking against it, citing studies some say is nothing more than junk science on the effects of microwaves caused by such activities. I might add another candidate for County Commissioner is speaking in favor of the electronic war fare, Maggie Roth, and also she is in favor of the, 2) proposed pier one project on Ediz Hook which the Navy wants to use to park some of their vessels, something that Ron Richards is against citing you guess it environmental concerns over the fish runs. I have yet to hear any comments made about these two issues from the other county commission candidates.
And finally, I saved the best for last, that is regarding the city comprehensive plan adding good relations with the military in fostering a military presence here. Which is something I totally agree with in encouraging the navy to make Port Angeles a port of call. Two reasons, added security, and more jobs for the community. Something those who oppose such a measure seem to blind to, they cite it will ruin the view of the harbor area if navy ships are parked out in the bay. Historically saying there was a naval fleet parked out in the strait during the second world war. Some which Mayor Downie mentioned during the Council meeting on Tuesday.  So, those who speak against the navy even being in town in essence rather trade up extra security, and possible business development which provides jobs for the community, for a scenic harbor vista. Just you watch who will howl the loudest when the military is called upon to cover their six. That is why I am encouraging anyone who supports the navy being in town wear a “GO NAVY” tee shirt or any military tee shirt to the city council meetings, or even the county commission meetings, show your support for those who serve our nation.

And finally, this might not be to related but it does touches on people being able to demonstrate for a cause or issue that effects the community as a whole. I have to hand it to Council member Whetham on taking a stand against a protocol policy that hasn't been fully vented. He commented on option one of the policy which the city agreed to which was option 2. I shared those remarks from the video I took, in yesterday's edition of the Port Angeles Digest. I am tempted to show up at the next council meeting my Army tee shirt, and carrying a US flag on my wheelchair...perhaps I might given the apparent lack of free speech being drummed up as rules of conduct during meetings at the city level.

COUNTY TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED SWIM POOL EXPANSION

On Tuesday's agenda of Clalam County Commission the county is holding a public hearing on the Proposed grant from the Opportunity Fund to the William Memorial Pool District (WSMPD) for a preliminary design options study for an expansion project and proposed resolution authorizing expenditures.
